The Butterfly Collection is one of the most distinctive product concepts developed by Mureli Workshop.
We spent approximately six months developing and refining the collection with our team. The goal was not to create another leather notebook cover, but to build a functional refillable journal around a recognizable mechanism of its own.
The result is our signature magnetic butterfly clasp — a sculptural leather butterfly that works as both a decorative element and a practical closure.
Today, the Butterfly concept is used across personalized journals, sketchbook organizers, refillable notebooks and custom business projects.
Our Signature Magnetic Butterfly Clasp
The butterfly is not simply decoration placed on top of the cover.
The clasp is built around two strong hidden magnets that hold the organizer closed while allowing it to open easily when needed.
We spent a significant part of the development process refining the butterfly's proportions, position and interaction with the rest of the organizer so that the mechanism would feel natural rather than added as an afterthought.
It became the visual identity of the entire collection.
A Hidden Pen Holder Under the Butterfly
One of our favorite details is easy to miss at first.
Under the butterfly is a small leather extension that works as a hidden holder for an extra pen or pencil.
This reflects the design philosophy behind the collection: even an unusual decorative element should have a practical purpose.
Refillable Leather Journals Designed for Long-Term Use
The leather organizer is designed to remain with its owner even after the original pages are finished.
Depending on the model, Butterfly journals use different refillable systems.
Some versions use a simple pocket system where an A5 sketchbook or notebook slides vertically into the leather organizer and can easily be replaced when full.
Other versions use a refillable 6-ring binder mechanism, allowing pages to be added, removed and rearranged whenever needed.
The idea is the same in both cases:
keep the leather journal, replace the pages and continue using it for years.

From the outside, a butterfly-shaped magnetic closure may look like a simple idea.

During approximately six months of development, our team worked on the relationship between:

This is why we do not see Butterfly as simply another leather notebook cover.
For us, it is a separate product design project with its own identity.

A sketchbook reaches its final drawing.
A journal moves into another chapter.
But the leather organizer can stay.
Replace the notebook or pages and continue using the same Butterfly journal while the leather itself gradually develops more character with time.
That is perhaps the simplest way to explain the idea behind the collection:
